Creeping up and up again, not really thinking about my eating habits. Too much end of Project crunch at work right now really. Some days I’m forgetting to eat and others I’m over eating. My staph infection is gone but the leg ulcer it was living in has not healed fully. On top of that while getting the leg redressed, the 3rd doctor to look at my leg thought it might be good to do a full work up on my bloods and I am glad he did. Week later I am told I have a Vitamin B12 deficiency.
So Vitamin B12 turns out to be quite important and is involved in metabolism (quelle surprise, my metabolism is shot to pieces so that tracks). It also helps fighting fatigue and keeping the nerve system and blood cells healthy to producing DNA. So normal level of vitamin B12 in your bloodstream is generally between 190 and 950 picograms per milliliter (pg/mL), my blood test showed mine was as low as 74 pg/mL (I’m told less than 160 pg/mL is considered low). Fun! So what are the causes of vitamin B12 deficiency? Pernicious anaemia, Diet, some stomach condition or some intestine condition. I’ve got a fasting blood test coming up which I assume is to pin down the cause and to ensure treatment is working.
Oh yes, treatment! Injections… for the rest of my life. At first, I had to have these injections every other day for 2 weeks. Now the loading injections are done, every 3 months I will be due a stabbing to top me up. Body feels like a car with a slow oil leak, hm. Just another thing to be dealing with I guess. Some of my recent weight gain could be down to the injections of hydroxocobalamin to fix the deficiency (loss of appetite and weight loss is a general symptom, go figure) but I am not here to blame that. I’ve still been not been thinking about diet, only work and health.
Diet 😐 / Mental willpower 😫 / Exercise 🚷
Besides all this mess, I’m close to completing my first HUGE work project and I will be taking 11 days off work to celebrate. Hopefully also going away on a mini-break but we will see 👌.
Next post is due 19th October 2022 after my annual leave!
